The ideas and objectives of the Lane Kirkland Scholarships Program are directly derived from the mission of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation. The above include, among other things, supporting democratic and free market transformations in other Central and Eastern European countries. The Program is financed from the funds of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation and administered by the Education for Democracy Foundation.
In total, in the years 2000-2015, 654 grantees from eleven countries completed the Program, out of which 340 students from the Ukraine, 133 - from Belarus, 40 - from Russia, 12 - from Lithuania, 10 - from Slovakia, 24 - from Armenia, 46 - from Georgia, 18 - from Moldavia, 18 - from Kazakhstan, 6 - from Azerbaijan and 7 - from Kyrgyzstan.
192 diplomas with honors were awarded. The largest number of grantees in the said period were from the field of economics and management - 215 persons, law - 105 persons and public administration - 87 persons. The largest professional group consisted of employees from higher education institutions (252 persons) as well as officials and experts (154 persons).
